Introduction

Background / what is the setting of the problem?

The word benevolence is come from Old French benivolence and directly from Latin benevolentia, it began in 14th century. Benevolence is a phrase, which refers to doing good as it relates to the needs of others. The dictionary defines it as a “disposition to do good” or an “act of kindness.” An example of benevolence is a gift of money affording someone the opportunity to go to college.

Benevolence has played an important role in the history of both Western and Chinese moral philosophy. Historically, it has often been used as the most general and encompassing term to refer to a sentiment aimed at the good of others. Since many, though not all, traditions in Western and Chinese moral philosophy identify morality with seeking the good of others, it is understandable that benevolence so understood should be regarded as so central to morality.

Benevolence (ren2) is one of the most important ideas by Confucius. It is often used together with righteousness (yi4). Confucius said, 'Benevolence is to love people.' Confucius also said, 'To be benevolent, one has to act by the five principles, respect, lenience, trustworthiness, diligence and kindness.'

Modern societies nowadays is still lacking in the most basic form of benevolence. Moral values and graciousness, in the past, were prominent in most

teenagers. Majority of the youths then learnt respect, courtesy, consideration, decency, propriety, honesty and righteousness from a young age, and had enough self-discipline to hold to these values.

However, these moral values and self-discipline are slowly diminishing over the years, as most of the younger generations are gradually disregarding these ethics. The listed values have slowly faded away, as they mean little to these adolescents, as moral values and self-discipline are on the verge of disappearing. This lack of self-discipline and self-control is becoming more and more apparent over time. However, this situation is not to be taken lightly as the younger generation is the future of our nation. Even the simplest of morals like, respect, care and consideration are slowly fading away over the years A simple display of respect like offering the elderly a seat on the bus is being replaced by scenarios of teenagers competing with them for seats. Instead of showing the principles of care and concern, several youngsters even engage in decadent behavior by taking pleasure in inflicting torture upon less able people. As fewer people lack the morality to help the needy, even Community Involvement Projects have to be forced upon students.

Problem Statement / what exactly is the problem you are trying to solve?

People nowadays especially teenagers in Malaysia are becoming ignorant in basic mannerism such as greeting the elderly, giving seats to the disabled or pregnant persons and cleaning up their own litters.

Motivation / why the problem is important to solve?

Technology has improved over the years, yet human nature has not changed and never will. Egoism, selfishness and greed are one of the few human weaknesses mentioned. Of course, there are always two sides to a coin and it is therefore imperative to constantly remind oneself and people around to do good deeds and refrain from indulging into cynical activities.

In my opinion, if we were all out there for ourselves, and not offering any kindness or help to others, where would our society be? Whether it's close to home in a small act of kindness or a large donation to a worldwide charity no kind act goes unappreciated, and many are paid forward. Without those little beautiful acts of kindness, the world would be so bleak and weary and the next generation of children will not know what are respect, what is benevolence what is courteous and etc.

Challenges / why the problem is difficult to solve?

Some parents have not given the proper teachings to their young to respect others and develop manners. Selfishness and not being taught by families are the two reasons. So many children are being raised in families with absent fathers that they aren't being reinforced on manners even if the mother is trying. Some parents think that after housing, clothing and feeding their kids, their job is done.

Strategy / how you solved the problem?

I will create a Benevolence campaign to Malaysian teenagers. “Good Deed” will use in this Benevolence Campaign carried out by myself in hope of enlightening others to be kind and instill moral values in them. The Campaign’s code is: Good manners, Respect – for others and their property, Respect – for yourself and honorable behavior. The truth is that I was inspired by the courtesy campaign advocated in foreign country and the lack of moral values in people nowadays. I remember many years back that Singaporeans' manners were not too good and courtesy campaigns were organized to get Singaporeans to be more courteous to one another.

The benevolence campaign is able to create a pleasant social environment with Malaysians considerate to each other and thoughtful of each other's needs, awareness amongst this degenerating society and create positive energies to drive people to do good deeds. This benevolence campaign was initially representing by an “OK” hand symbol logo and with the slogan of “Be Benevolent” targets Malaysian teenagers to instill good values in them.

Main Summary of the results / what are the main result?

This is partly because of their upbringing and the education background. Hence, this campaign will gradually change the mentality of our young Malaysians to be courteous and benevolent.

Summary and Conclusion

Benevolence mean is doing good as it relates to the needs of others. “Good Deeds” will be used in a benevolence campaign to hope of enlightening others to be kind and instill moral values in them. This benevolence campaign with the slogan of

“Be Benevolent” targets audience is Malaysian teenagers to instill good values in them. There are becoming ignorant in basic mannerism, this is partly because of their upbringing and the education system. Hence, this campaign will gradually

change the mentality of our young Malaysians to be benevolent.

This campaign uses photos of a young and lovely lady performing good deeds and showing her blissful smile with an O.K. hand gesture, was captured through her mid air jump shots to portray good sensation as one good deeds. People

who involved with good deeds will feel happy and light hearted because good spirit and energy of kindness is vibrated from one person to another, therefore the floating effect would only occur on people who offered kindness to others. It also to promote

the campaign and make people and feel interest to know why jump.

In general, “Good Deeds” logo designs. The hand symbol G is shown to people who do good deeds to depict their commendable action. The other 3 fingers from the hand symbol represent a kind heart, a polite intonation and a courteous

demeanor. And as for the logo, its shape symbolizes a badge, which aims to reward people who do good deeds. Use the American typewriter font as it gives off a sense of elegance and honor. Last but not least, pink color as the primary theme color. Pink is the color of universal love and it provides feelings of caring, tenderness, self-worth, love and acceptance. It also uses yellow color in the logo design. Yellow symbolizes wisdom, joy, happiness and intellectual energy. Hopefully people will be impacted with all these positive energies from the logo design.

Apart from that, risk factor is time constraints, shooting photo and video has to be shot within certain weather conditions.

In conclusion, this campaign will hopefully impact the lives of many people and ultimately change their thoughts and actions in a positive way. Promoting a culture of peace and love is vital for the future generation and long term survival of

the human race.
